As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

It is the last day of 2017, so I thought it was worth the effort to document my thoughts. With all that has happened in 2017, the fact remains that I am living, breathing, and am alive. For this I am grateful. Celebrating life is something to be grateful for. I'm thankful for all the blessings, through the tough times, and good. +/- is all part of life. We cannot handle the actions of others, but we do possess the capacities to choose our own actions.

Picture

For me visiting Houston, Texas during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey was probably the most memorable experience. This was a spontaneous unplanned trip, that I wish took place in the circumstance of happiness. But I believe that humans should be there for each other both in +/- circumstance. I saw the strength, courage, and resilience of communities who suffered such loss. I also saw the power of coming together, regardless of race or socio/economic status, everyone helped each other. And we even saw the Houston Astros winning the MLB World Series Championship. It was fantastic to see Houstonians once again smiling and cheering with happiness.

I continue to pray for a globalized vision of peace and love, for our children, the children of the world, and for humanity in it's entirety. To our allies, friends, the ones who have showed us love, thank you for your support. And to any enemy, may we always seek to reach understandings. I wish everyone a blessed last day of 2017, and a Happy New Years Day, wherever you are ringing in the New Year around the world. Thank you for your continued readership and support.

Reflection: So What Now?

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that I was taking the time to think about my previous thoughts. With the arrival of current globalization, increased technological advances, networks produced through the world wide web, we are possessed with the ease of communication, information, and also use technology to further our own learning, and growth. Technology and information is the current revolution that we are living. Through this revolution, we are also changing processes and trying to build learners so that they posses the skills to use technologies. We even see this happening in the field of higher education, where there is a push for skills based training. But in all cases we must continue to value thought, thinking, imagination, and creativity. As with the need for skills development, we also need thinkers for the world, to problem solve, and think of solutions as to how to solve the worlds problems, these are also skills. For this to happen we have to cultivate spaces where learners can think, create, and allow their imaginations to flourish. The development of thinking and thought arrives with a personal cost. Thinking requires environments and spaces where the mind is inspired, where thought can take place, often turning into a lifestyle. With thought and thinking, although it may not be seen, or the results are not immediate, thought requires sacrifice.

We many not be able to control the actions of terror groups, organized crime, killings, and murder, but we cannot loose hope for prosperity, love, peace, and global unity. A vision is a commitment. Maybe it is time to think about a revolution for global unity? Human beings desire wealth, and the creation of economic prosperity, and there is nothing wrong to desire this. But we also need to create a balance in the realm of desiring wealth, this includes health, and happiness. For the revolution of global unity, love, peace, and prosperity, it includes going back to basics, thinking about what we truly value, and using holistic learning practice, through the integration of technologies.

Economic prosperity, and global growth has arrived with the cost of terrorism, but this does not mean that everything else should be stopped. We have to push forward, and breakthrough the psychological distresses that have been caused. Global growth cannot be stopped, nor the growth of humans. A humans desire for growth is innate, it is built within us. So while we are learning, growing, developing, and acquiring skills, why not begin to prepare present and future generation for a new revolution?

     Conclusion
These thoughts conclude my thoughts with regards to globalization, modern terrorism and edcation. For the purposes of assisting teacher practice and promoting a vision for global growth, unity, and promoting holistic learning, I have complied a list of resources below:

So What Now?
Merry Christmas

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

I was taking the time to think about my previous thoughts. I asked the question - So What Now? What now that we know that national, International and Worldwide terror is another social construction? As I write these words, we hear of the deadly fires in New York City, or the attacks on a Coptic Christian Church in Egypt. What next? The more we fight, talk against the terror, the more it continues. The truth is that words do have the power to create attitudinal shifts, but these simple words are not in control of terror organizations. With these words we can hope that human beings on all fronts come to understand and realize that killing innocent civilians is disgusting, wrong, and de-moralizing, not only for those those that are affected, but also for the rest of our human family, who are against terrorist acts. Globalization is historically and it is also constantly evolving through the present moments, and once again I say that tolerance is the key for building understanding, through the global growths.

We can relate these thoughts to the examples of Christmas and other religious celebrations that take place during the same time. Christmas is a cherished time for Christians. Chanukah and Kwanzaa also take place during the period of Christmas. Religious practices and traditions help to keep the beliefs and faith alive. It is how faith or religion survives. We can also think of how religious beliefs are connected. The birth of Jesus from a muslim perspective is also the birth of the Messiah. Jesus carried the voice of God, through his spirit. For Muslims to disrespect the Christian Christmas, is a disrespecting of the Muslim faith. And for the question of So What Now? We can or should never give up the hope that human beings can and will ever be able to live in peace and harmony with each other. We can never control the actions of others, but can try our best to control our own.

Dedication: The words of this human being are dedicated to the lives lost during the fire in New York and attack in Egypt, may you rest in peace. And to the families we send our love, prayer and condolences. My thoughts to share with love & kindness.

So What Now?

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that I was taking the time to think about my previous thoughts. It is true that when we fight for our very last breaths, we will all be reminded of this fact, our common element of being human. Regardless of faith, ethnicity, race, gender, or ableism, at our crux - this is what we share, the fact that we are all human. Being human should not be something that we remember at our last breaths, or moments of contemplation, but something integral to our everyday thoughts. This common element should be what joins us through our differences. Being human should also not mean that we don't embrace our differences or faith, beliefs, practices, that we have chosen for our way of living, and life. Being human should mean that we embrace these, but also understand that every other human has a right to practice their own belief, lifestyle, or way of living. (providing that you are not hurting others through the process).

Embracing each others differences is an act of fostering understanding, and also building tolerance. Fostering understandings is also showing sensitivity to others. For example: During the time of Christmas, we know that this is a very special period for all those who celebrate. With extending our good wishes, and thoughts it is simply showing care, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness, to the faith, religion, and practices of others. It does not mean that your own beliefs or practices are hurt, when you show care for others celebrations. Tolerance, care, and sensitivity to faith and other religions is needed now more than ever. Individuals, migrants, immigrants want to feel that they belong to the lands that they travel to and from. Part of belonging is to foster love, care, and sensitivity to the beliefs, practices, and celebrations of others.

Dedication: The words of the human being are dedicated to all who love and cherish the season of Christmas. May there be love and peace. My thoughts to share with love & kindness, Shazi! :)

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that I've been taking the time to think about my previous thoughts. With the rise of terrorism, even as I write these words we hear of death, innocents killed, because of groups who are structured and placed trying to send implicit and explicit messages. When we think of terror, or terrorist, I'm guessing that the first word that everyone will probably say is Isis, Hamas, or Islamic terrorism. The mainstream media has been set-up so these groups get the most attention, and of course induce stereotypes / prejudices towards Muslims. This is not just a truth that I write today, but it has been happening for years. It is a tactic created for social moulding. But then what about other terrorist groups that are not tied to Islamic  groups? I'm assuming that these groups are not tied to "Islamic terrorism" but their goals are the same of sending implicit and explicit messages, and to cause disruption. These terror attacks are attributed to globalization, or the globalist agenda, but the terror groups have forgotten that globalization in not a new phenomenon, it has occurred throughout significant historical events. Terror groups disagree or feel a sense of entitlement. These could be powerful groups, who use their power to send messages.

Terror operates on national and international levels. What is common about the attacks is that it is always innocent civilians who have become the target. Innocents who are trying to survive, making a living, looking after their family, and probably have minimal care of globalist agendas. I think that I have said it before, and I'll say it again here: terror in all forms attacks, mass shootings, or any that involve the killing of civilians, questions the morals, ethics, and values of all who continue to attack, and use methods of terror. Modern terror is disgusting. It is de-moralizing, not only to those who do the terror, but also in the name of the human family, our human race. Why have human beings gone so low to think that it is normal, or it is ok to mass murder, kill, or suicide attacks? Yes we hear about death, destruction almost every other day, but should we, or why should human beings begin to normalize this?

It is not normal, nor should we ever accept it as so. So I question and wonder now that I know, that there are terror groups within America, and terror groups that enter America, and the many at the international level, what is to be done? Can anything be done to stop the monsters of terror that human beings have created? Can the monster of terrorism be stopped, or changed to see that it is wrong? In fighting for the color of skin, everyone has lost the very essence of their humanity, and have forgotten the human family - Our Human Race. The difference between race and human race is that the human race sees humans.

In fighting with each other - what have we done? What are we doing? We have dis-respected the very simple essence, this temple, our body, our human spirit, our soul, our being, and our humanity.

As with every social construction, so too is terrorism, so now that we know - so what now?

Reflection: America First

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that I started writing my thoughts, and sharing my teaching, learning, and resources to simply  be of help to others. The purpose of my thoughts were specifically because it is difficult to have thoughts heard, listened to, or even valued. Even if thoughts do make it, if and when they do, they might not even be relevant. This is what makes the beauty of writing on-line a cross between academic and personal writing. The thoughts become available in an instant, and right away. I write and think of these words, specifically because of my thoughts that are related to Globalization. At it's most simple level: Globalization is about relationships, partnerships, investments, economic trade. Examples include: EU NAFTA NATO. Apart from these there are also unofficial close ties and relationships that are built through post-war efforts, such as Afghanistan or Japan. We can also think of peace efforts abroad, such as the work done with the Peace Corps in Africa. These partnerships are not only vital for the health, well-being, and prosperity of America, but also for countries who are involved in trading relationships and agreements.

The partnerships, relationships, and agreements can be said to be a part of the U.S. led global mission, or agenda. America is and has asserted itself as the World leader historically through processes of de-colonization, and post-war efforts, through military response, and diplomacy. What we are seeing today is not a declared war, but terrorism, and terrorist acts that occur frequently, particularly in America, and also in countries that are strong U.S. allies. This form of modern terrorism occurs through surprise attacks, and what makes them so devastating, is that innocent members of a nation become the victims. In most cases, innocents who are non-state actors, and don't participate in everyday political decisions. These attacks are purposely done to harm, halt, or even destroy the American strength, and mission. We can say that the attacks that are from Islamic groups, because some are individuals who join these groups because they feel as though they are being left behind from the global process. At it's root modern terrorism is a rupture, an anti-globalist response. But what these groups fail to understand is that globalization is a process, that should seek to benefit for all nations. Some nation are already more developed that others, and other nations require the assistance, and aid of foreign investment.

As much as America has, and still is contributing to these efforts, terrorism does not stop. Life is lost, blood, terror, hurt, destruction continues. It should also be noted, that Islamic terrorism is only one form of terrorism. There are many forms of terrorism, some are even from within a nation. These are not random, they are also done for the same reasons, or seen as an opposition. So what I will say to every terror group out there, is simple: enough is enough. How many lives will be lost until everyones ego is satisfied? Terrorism is gruesome. It is a cowardly act.  It questions the moral consciousness of human beings, because it disrupts upon the psychological and physical levels. This is why I think that it is important to put a nation first. A secure nation, thrives. Having said this, it is important to maintain relationships with other countries as well. This will also mean that if allies want to engage in flourishing partnerships with America, there must also be support for America, who is leading and paving the way for everyone. Every new era arrived with disruption, we can think about previous revolutions, or movements such as the Women's Suffrage. This is the beauty about introspecting history, we have social mappings that we can refer to, to predict or plan future directions. This is also why I think that America should look after its own interests, at a national and international level simultaneously, therefore a strategy for each.

Historically, America First was a campaign that was started to deter war. We could also see this through the lens of the current American slogans and Presidential promises. America is trying at best to keep close ties with allies, strengthen a nation, keep on building and maintaining diplomacy, so that there is no official war declared. America must also understand that yes; at its root modern terrorism is intricately  linked to globalization, but another focus is Israel. Israel is linked to the United States through policy, Palestinians have been left out for far too long, this is also a source of tension.

Art Attack

I remember coming home from school, my mum would make us tea, and then we would watch some TV, before doing homework. There was this show that I loved to watch, it was called Art Attack. I was reminded of this show, during my recent experience, of what I would call the intersection of passion and pain. As educators we are passionate about what we do, this is our training, and the reason why we have devoted so many years to the study and training of the field and subject matter. However, as educators we also know when we are not able to serve the needs of the students. This is especially the case with language. I don't think that it is as important to know another language, than it is to know and understand a culture. Language is a part of culture. However when the person who is doing the hiring knows full well what the make - up of the school population looks like, then they are in a much better position to determine if a teacher is the right fit for a teaching position. Teaching is so much more than knowing a subject. This is something that administrators must understand.

Below I share some resources that can serve for Grade 10 / 11 art class. These are geared as introductory lessons.

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that after reading the article in The New York Times about Salma Hayek's journey, life struggles, her experiences of working in the film industry, as well as the making of the film "Frida" resonated so well, and actually left me in a deep reflective state. No words. After reflecting and taking the time to digest her words and experiences, I can certainly say that I relate to her struggles. I think of her struggles of being a woman, and in the film industry, and how difficult it was for her to make the film "Frida". Her struggles, and even her life experiences can be related to any field, which also includes, the field of education and research. Just because one has entered the field of Higher Education, it does not mean that one is able to think, write, and research whatever one desires. The act to research is also a political act, because the system wants to know, how the research is going to benefit them. We can think in terms of the film. Frida Kahlo was Mexican, she spoke Spanish, a prolific artist, and one that did not gain the attention that she deserved whilst she was living. She suffered. She survived. And she lived. She was involved in social and political movements. She wanted to contribute even through her illness. Her story is worth preserving, researching, as well as the creating of books, films, and research about her life and arts. Just as other histories are worth preserving, so too is hers, which I would include the heritages of Mexico and USA. Frida and her husband Rivera, were both active in the revolutions in Mexico and America. The struggles and the victories of histories and ancestry are worth preserving. Just like that of the African American, South Asian, British, or any other history or culture of the world. No one culture is better than the other. Everyone wants their cultures and traditions to be valued.

Picture
Ibrahim El - Salahi - African Modernist Artist.

We can take these thoughts and relate them to the artist, the actress / actor, or the researcher / writer. What one decides to devote time and energy towards will depend on own interests and experiences. This is the beauty of being an individual, and creating from the point of what we value. If everyone was to create the same, have exactly the same interests, then what would a society look like? We must allow individuals to explore their interests, because where is the beauty of living in a homogenized society? When we explore what interests us, we in a sense add value, and make our own contributions to the world.

But the fact of the matter and the realities that Hayek offers point out that, it is not as easy as it sounds. There will be risks, barriers, and heart breaks. But if it is important, whatever is to be created will always reveal itself in earthly form. Historically women have had to overcome so much more to get to where they want to be. We could blame male patriarchy, the intersections of race, ethnicity, religion, skin color, ability, disability, gender, or fidelity. Fidelity is a trust. Sometimes artists, thinkers, innovators must go beyond the lines of the nation state, this is especially the case for the building of democratic relations, diplomacy, and peace building. It should never be an excuse to point fingers at women to say that there have been transgressions. The ones who have entrusted you with their trust will always be there for you.

Histories are worth preserving, weather it is your history or mine, it is worth it. We can all learn from the life stories of others, because one day we will also be another story.

Dedication: The words of this being are dedicated to Salma Hayek, thank you for your commitment to the preservation of Frida's story. And to all human beings, what is your story?

The Spirit Speaks.

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that the other day President Trump made an announcement to declare and recognize that the USA officially recognizes that Jerusalem is Israel's capital city. Although he is right to say that every country, nation has a capital city, and why should this be a different for Israel. What makes the case different for Israel is that this decision / declaration is not only political, but it intersects with religion, making it even more political. Jerusalem is a very precious site for the three major Monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. A declaration, or a proclamation to say that the city is Israel's capital has implications. We see these at the explicit level where protests have erupted, and there have been deaths from the sides of the Palestinians, and Israelis. The explicit is derived from the implicit messages. The fact that he delivered the clear message is exclusionary, to all the other faiths, who believe this city and think of it as their own, and belonging to them. So the truth is that Jerusalem should clearly belong to all the religions who claim that is belongs to them. This is not to say that Israel should not have a capital city.

There should be a capital city, but I don't think that it was appropriate for President Trump to declare this. Even if the USA are close allies with Israel. His first priority as President and Commander-in-chief is to look after the interests of America. However, I would like to posit an assumption, and what I think is truthful. Once again we see a President who is looking after the interests of Ivanka Trump and family first, rather than America. Saying that the USA is a close ally to Israel is his excuse, to look after his interests of his family first.

So you may say, why didn't I say anything on the day of the declaration? The reason being was because I wanted to observe, what he would say, and the effects. It was all too well for him to make this declaration, but where was he when the protests erupted, and violence broke out? As a leader, considered the world leader, he also had a duty and obligation to speak out on behalf of all human beings. Allies or not - the loss of human life on any side must be stood for. His actions and in-actions, simply show what and who he stands for. A Muslim, Christian or a Jewish person are humans, before they belonged to any religious construct, or imposition.

So what are we to do? By recognizing and giving power to one religious group, negates the others. It creates a sense of belonging and un-belonging. President Trumps decision is not a progressive one, and actually quite out-dated. It re-claims the historical unending wars / conflicts that have taken place in the region, and has opened up all sorts of wounds. If nothing is achieved, what should be achieved, and thought about is how the religious site / land of Jerusalem can belong to all. Even though Jerusalem may not see eye to eye with Mecca, Saudia Arabia. I actually think that they can learn a lot from each other. This is not to say that I agree with all of their practices. But what I will commend them for is their ability to manage millions of worshippers and pilgrims that come to Saudi Arabia from all angles of the world. What would be quite useful is to look at their processes for the purposes of inclusion, rather than setting a claim to the religions lands. These thoughts can be related to that of Earth. The Earth belongs to everyone. But it is the social constructs, boundaries, borders, and maps that reveal who belongs where, and why. This is the same for religious sites. As much as humankind has placed a claim on lands, or religious sites, if we think deeply can anyone put a claim on anything?

We are born for the world, we die for the world. What we do during our time upon the world, not only defines and shapes who we are as human beings, but also reveals what sort of impact, trace, or foot-print that will be left upon the world. Instead of opening old wounds, emphasizing an endless war, I think that there is a need for progression, a solution. Because what will not change is the fact that Jerusalem belongs to the Jewish people, Christians, and Muslims. Through God's eyes all are equal. No one is loved more than the other. This is what it means to be the Children of God. And if Jesus was alive in body to speak, he could potentially reveal that the Kingdom of Israel belongs to him. ;)

The Psychological War

12/9/2017

Picture

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that I was taking the time to think and reflect upon my previous thoughts, particularly when I mentioned the idea about what worked for one generation, might not necessarily work for another. This is particularly true because we are constantly seeing progressions, and social evolutions which are driven from technologies, and better living standards. Of course these progressions will vary from region to region, cultures and  countries. With progression there will also be the idea of change. The change can happen in instances, or through progressions. We can think of instances through a historical perspective, where there are wars.  People have to adapt quickly to the changes that are driven from war. There are also psychological wars, where Governments, power structures, or powerful groups / individuals will evoke power to alter the processes within the brain. We can see this happening through the announcements from world leaders or news media. With war we see the effects visually, for the psychological we don't see the visual effects immediately, but we feel and sense them first. These will affect, impact, and change our behaviours. In all instances there are attitudinal shifts towards nations and leadership. These are either positive or negative.

In order to create something, there is a period of brokenness. Imagine a building that is torn down, it is destroyed in order to create and build a new one. In the same sense for social evolution to take place there must be attitudinal shifts. We can relate this thought to the California Wildfires. As we see the devastations, smoke, and images from the scene, we learn of death and destruction. The climate change and environmentalist advocates will have much to say about this. But what about the fires, or smoke that are poured into the self? In my previous thoughts I wrote about Marijuana which is derived from Cannabis. This and other substances are inhaled and exhaled. In other words we are polluting the body. Lets imagine those scenes from the wildfires within our body. We are in a sense destructing the body, but the same powerful individuals, groups and structures, who are advocates for the environment, and climate change will fail to recognize the harms of these substances to the body and health, because it harms their cause, and of course we can't forget about the money factors as well. :(
