Art Attack

     I remember coming home from school, my mum would make us tea, and then we would watch some TV, before doing homework. There was this show that I loved to watch, it was called Art Attack. I was reminded of this show, during my recent experience, of what I would call the intersection of passion and pain. As educators we are passionate about what we do, this is our training, and the reason why we have devoted so many years to the study and training of the field and subject matter. However, as educators we also know when we are not able to serve the needs of the students. This is especially the case with language. I don't think that it is as important to know another language, than it is to know and understand a culture. Language is a part of culture. However when the person who is doing the hiring knows full well what the make - up of the school population looks like, then they are in a much better position to determine if a teacher is the right fit for a teaching position. Teaching is so much more than knowing a subject. This is something that administrators must understand.
