Let us keep love, keep hope alive - Contigo! ;)

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect. The truth is that I have been taking the time to think about my previous thoughts. With regards to the monetary gain - I wanted to make it clear that as thinkers, we also do care about the economy. Worldly events are what shapes the economy. This is both a positive and a negative. I think that when thoughts are shared, it is important to take the time to think about these.  If you are in disagreement, rather than taking the time to react, why not take the perspective of hmmmm why not? If, or but, or could it be... in a sense, think of thoughts as a lens that is being offered. A new way of seeing. A thought does not demand an external action however, it may demand the internal action of, thinking about the thought. It is simply an invitation, an initiation.

Lately as we have seen in the media, the election race has become quite devastating, not just for people who are following the lead up to the election, but also this election is really showing the divisions that exist internally in America. It is very unfortunate. The Clinton Campaign continuously is partnering with global leaders to develop schemes, infectious bloody schemes that are hurting, and tearing people apart at the micro and macro level. It is these macro division that are filtering down to the level of the individual.

We need to have a leader that can see past the illusions, someone who is strong enough to know that - yes these divisions exist, yet also posses a deep passion, a desire to try to heal the rifts. Any type of change is hard. As human beings we don't like change, because it is unsettling. It takes us away from our routines. This is why I have always thought that what if we began to change our rhetoric's? What if instead of saying "change" we said "continuous improvement" ? This word does not evoke a type of fear from change. It is suggesting we are improving. If you think about it - can we ever change anything? Yes, we can - change is the end result of continuous improvement. To get to the end result we have to continuously improve. And yet when we get to our end result, we find that there is more to be done, more improvements to be made. So in a sense, change is simply a cycle of of continuous improvements.

We have to have these improvements because society is hybrid. It is constantly evolving due to the social and technological changes. We are a much more integrated society, due to the evolution's of communications, this is not to say that we should not try to keep traditions alive. This is the beauty of continuous improvement. We can take out parts of the previous, to add it to the prospective. In other words. We don't have to discard a past to shape a present or a future. We can use a past to project a future. Find out what worked, and what did not work. Ask question of why, and take it from there. You see, history is important. This also needs to be preserved in some sort of way or fashion. History points out how and why we got to where we are now. I think that today we are actually quite blessed to have history, because we have instant access to what worked and what did not work. In the same sense we must not loose our hope to heal the rifts and the divides. Regardless of the bloodshed's, schemes and natural disasters, that we hear of. We must not loose this sense of hope.
Picture

At this point I am reminded of Einstein who encouraged the watching of fairy tales. Yes, I admit I still like to watch fairy tales. Why? Because it takes us away from the harsh realities, into a world of lessons, projections, goodness and love. We are renewed with a sense of hope. That the world can be a harmonious place to live. We ourselves are renewed. As human beings we ourselves need to keep this hope alive within. Maybe it won't be in the form of a fairy tale, it could be any positive form outlet. Whatever the mechanism or means, we must keep hope alive. We must never loose hope of continuously striving to improve. It is easy to accept what is, it takes a large amount of courage to stand up for what is right. It takes a lot of introspection to unsettle the norms, to hope and shape for continuous improvements.

Let us hope, let us believe in love, in life. :)

The Human Economy

Picture

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land
where there is love, health, peace and blessings. I wanted to take a moment to think and reflect. The truth is that I have been experiencing a great amount of perplexion as of late. I am deeply distressed about a new discovery that I have found.

So as I begin to write, I question and wonder about the human civilization. Can we put a price tag on societies or groups? Can we do this from the perspective of a human politic? I am thinking in monetary terms because we cannot simply ignore the economy. However, it is the intersection of the human value and economic value that is of concern.

For example: If an individual has an idea - He or she is so passionate about this idea, he / she is so passionate about this idea, that this individual will do whatever it takes to push forth this idea. To push this idea forward, it may require a certain amount of sacrifice. These could be found through time, effort, commitment, persistence. Sometimes the idea or passion will be acquired through a loss, a formulation of pain, through the sacrifices. This should not be taken as a negative because if you think about it. Does anything worth having in life come easy? Anything that you are passionate about, feel deeply connected with, and have a sense of desire will require time and patience. These goals are not always in the form of educational goals. It could be anything. From finding a fulfilling job, or just maintaining good health. However, I would like to intervene and think more from and educational perspective.

As we learn, come into an awareness. It is only natural that we want to act upon our learning. However, for learners, students, life long learners, and scholars a certain amount of patience is required. Ideas need time to evolve, to come into being. We need to allow the mind / brain time to think, time to explore. Sometimes these types of sacrifices go
unnoticed because they are intangible. They cannot be seen. The working begins with an internal procedure.

I have certainly felt this way. As much as I tried to think and remain patient, give myself time to develop my ideas - I could not rest with the sense of knowing, without a sense of doing. So this is why I started sharing my thoughts via our blog page. Simply to create an awareness. This does not mean that I wish I could not do more. The truth is, this is all I can manage at this time in my life in terms of knowledge mobilization. I don't want to discredit my studies, but I also want to share. This is a sacrifice that comes with learning. This a a sacrifice that is feasible at this moment in time.

We can also look at these thoughts in terms of a democracy. As politicians. Our concern is the people. We want to do what is good for the people. Yet, at the same time we want a flourishing economy,  where the demands of the public as a consumer are met.

Then I think and begin to wonder about large companies that are dominating the markets. I question and wonder. What kind of control do they have? Is their value so much that they are able to govern or control the actions of a political system? Should this be the case?

Whilst politicians recognize and value the contributions of business - we must also question how mush interference do we want from  companies that can aim to take control of political action. This interference has to be regulated in some sort of way or fashion, because the main aim of companies is profit. This is not to say that we do not acknowledge the contributions of the companies that are investing in the good of the people, through the political systems, and organizations. We care about a flourishing economy. Yet, we also have to care and value the needs of the people. Be respectful towards the path that they have chosen. We have to care about the good of the people.

Question:
How can we maintain a healthy sense of profit without compromising the human politic, the good of he people?

Responsibility
With the accrual of knowledge we are imposed with the implicit responsibly to share this knowledge. If we have learned something that we believe is of value and for the good of the people we have to share this. In the same sense with the accrual of money, there arrives the implicit responsibility of giving back for the good of others who are less fortunate,  and for good causes. This is the connection with gaining knowledge and money. Both arrive with a responsibility. Both arrive with a trust.

Dedication: My thoughts are dedicated to all human beings, You are valuable, you are amazing. Be You! My thoughts to share with love & kindness. Shazi :)

Towards Integration: A Synergistic Blend

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect. The truth is that I have been taking the time to think and reflect about some of the reactions and thoughts that have spurred form the third Presidential debate, with regards to the "Nasty Woman" comment. This thought spurred an increase of "Nasty Woman" products as well as #'s via twitter, and has also created a space for a conversation.

I am not a feminist, actually I am quite grateful and happy that I am not. When a woman who considers herself to be a feminist, who wants to be on par with the male gender - for better or for worse, then I think that women must also be held accountable just as men would be for their thoughts and actions. This is not to say that I do not believe in women's equality. Which I do.

Women's voice deserves attention. I also believe in the value of the male voice as well. The human family is made up of all genders. Therefore, all genders must be honored. So if women are going to step up - and call themselves feminists, and if there actions, thoughts are perceived negatively, then the same consequence that is given to a male should be allocated. It is only fair. You can't say that you want to be on par with another gender only to accept the good points.

Historically
Women have struggled to obtain rights.

Present
Women have obtained many rights

Future
As much as women have obtained many rights, it does not mean that there is still not more work to be done. However, does it mean that women have to rise up to an extreme? Can we not say that it is time for integration, rather than extremism. Any form of extremism is unbalanced. This point can be connected to our human body. If we eat too much of something (extreme) it will negatively impact our body, therefore we must maintain a healthy balance.

A woman's voice must be heard
A man's voice must be heard
Voices must be heard to create a synergistic blend.

To demonstrate my thoughts please refer to the following diagrams:

A Cultural Perspective

The home of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect. The truth, is that I am taking the time to remember Pink Shirt Day Day. This is a day that is dedicated to spread awareness about bullying, to stop bullying of all forms. On this day I decided to share the message of inclusion with all of my students. I decided to write a poem that encapsulated a snap shot of my personality. The underlying reason for doing so was because, I believe when you take the time to get to know the "other", we can begin to break down generalized stereotypes, be taking a stand at the level of the individual.

So it is obvious that  I am a woman of colour, belonging to an ethnic minority group. Although I have a British Accent, the colour of the skin is what is seen first. Also I have a Muslim name. As we live through the days of Islamophobia - I wanted to shed light and share a positive message. I also asked the students, to share some thoughts about themselves. I found a positive outcome with the use of this activity.

As much as we need to adopt the values and message of days of inclusion everyday, I like the idea of having specific days set to send a reminder, and reiterate the message. These days are sometimes extended into months. For example: Black History Month, or Hispanic Heritage Month. These months are great because we are able to explore language, culture, and people at a deeper level. What I would say is that if modeled correctly - these months can inspire respect.

Picture
Picture
During the Hispanic Heritage Month, there was the opening of the African American Heritage Museum in Washington. The structure of this museum is quite extraordinary. I believe it was a 10 years in the making project. I decided to share the happiness of this land mark opening by tweeting congratulations.
Later, I began to think  - As much as this was a beautiful historic moment for the preservation of the African American culture, I could not help but think about the affect of this opening as it coincided with the Hispanic Heritage Month. Should the opening have waited? Did our leaders do enough to preserve the awareness of this month? I feel that a date that is set for such a historic and momentous occasion should be very well though about. Even though I contributed and was happy. I could not help but think that the timing, really took away from the preservation of the Hispanic Heritage Month.

You see: The implicit message that is sent can simply mean that one heritage is more important than another. Yet, historically Hispanics in America have struggled to have their voices heard. These months are special because they can serve as a time to re-conciliate with history. To strengthen bonds with communities. As I conclude my thoughts I ask  -

How did this opening affect the preservation's of the Hispanic Heritage Month?

What are the invisible implicit messages that are being sent out by our leaders?

Dedication - These thoughts are dedicated to all beings - They are also dedicated to the people of the Hispanic descent, you are worthy and you are loved. My thoughts to share with love & kindness! :)

A Political Gaze

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. The truth is that I have been taking the time to think about the election that is taking place in America for quite some time. Sometimes I will think for hours and then the kids will ask me: "Mama what are you doing?" I will reply "thinking" She will respond by saying - but that's not doing anything. I smile, and simply say that thinking is doing something. Thoughts require time to digest, they require time to simmer, to be processed in some sort of orderly fashion.

This is exactly the case for my thoughts upon the news media that is constantly attacking presidential nominee's. With much love and respect to both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, I have decided to focus my thoughts upon the GOP Nominee Mr. Donald Trump. The truth is lately, or should I say - if not everyday, he is attacked one way or another about his personal life, that is now being placed at the forefront of the political arena. It seems like everyday there is a new scenario.

As much as I will not comment upon the scandal that have been released - I will say how can we determine fact from fiction? Have these stories been created as a mechanism to sway or persuade voters against him? To me - I would say this is the actual case. With the election just days away to me it simply shows the tactics oppositional parties can do- They will do anything to negotiate with the public.

The truth is that I have been taking the time to think about Mr. Trump. He himself is an entrepreneur. Who decides to give up a life of being his or her own boss, to be a person who wants to help the people of America? To be honest I was quite skeptical of his many thoughts myself, but as his campaign began to evolve and take shape, I realized that there was more to his campaign that anyone can, and will understand. He uses slogans such as "Make America Great Again"  or "America First". To My understanding I feel that he is operating from a position of deep passion, that is fueled through pain. The deep pain of knowing the separations and divides, that exist within the boundaries of the American nation. He wants to unify his country, and to tell you the truth: Somethings he has said are a bit bitter, but is it not better to hear a bitter truth than to be deceived? Is it not better to have a president who is upright, telling the truth, understanding the work that needs to be done to build a stronger nation? Or a nominee who has not left the White House for years on end. Who will continue the cycle of creating more turmoil and divides on a national and global level?

Picture
Just like a human being who desires some sort of change or betterment - So to is the condition for a nation, for politics. Society is transformational, continuously evolving. Is it not better to have a breath of fresh air in the White House? Is it not better to have someone who is loyal, committed, and ready to serve a nation with passion, than a re-creation of the Obama cycle.

With much love and respect to President Obama. I think that you have served well for your time, you have made history as the first person of colour president for the United States of America. We hear thoughts such as if Hillary is not elected then what will happen to the Obama legacy? The truth is that there are so many ways that you could preserve your legacy. This is through your own children. Through creating programs that continue to raise awareness for your concerns. This is not a worry. The thought that everyone should be thinking about right now is: What would a unified America look like? What are the benefits of truly coming together for a greater stronger nation?

Picture
You see the GOP Nominee or the next president has to look after the interests of all populations. This is decreed within the constitution. Everyone regardless of Age, gender, sexuality, race or ability has to be taken care of. My thoughts are not about this. My question is - Is it not time for a breath of fresh air in the White House?

So maybe you may be asking - Shazia you are a woman, what about all of the comments (Scandals) that are plaguing Mr. Trumps campaign. The truth is I believe that these types of scandals are purposely perpetuated to persuade the masses, the public. You see, it's easier to listen to what someone else has to say, rather than do your own research, and apply your own thinking. People get lazy. This is due to the principle of least effort (P.O.L.E). For example: Instead of going to library you may decide to find a reading source on line, because it is easier. You don't have to leave home, don't have to travel, and do this at your own convenience. In the same sense its easier to believe what is being constantly broadcasted on the T.V then to read and look up on an issue.

If there was any truth to these scandals, I would also consider this as a positive as well. Mr. Trump has taken the time to acknowledge and apologize. What is this showing? To me this is showing Humility. It does not matter what sort of stage you are in life, your wealth, your worldly possessions. No one is that big to apologize when necessary. His candidacy is and will be an example to the American people. No single being on this earth is perfect. Including me. No one is perfect. Our flaws are what makes us beautiful and unique. Let his example show the world that no one should be considered that powerful to apologize. Everyone deserves a chance, a chance to have their voice heard. Is it not time to focus on the real political issues?

Also with regards to the Wall. Actually this is something that I was opposing. If the wall is built or not - there is a drug problem, there is a problem of illegal immigrants, This is a problem, We need to start thinking about effective solutions. The potential benefits of creating a wall have momentous gains if marketed as a tourist attraction.

Drugs are plaguing the people, the people who are already living in America. People who could be productive are damaging their lives by resorting to drugs. There is so much to think about. A presidential selection is not about hair, make - up, body image, or personal flaws, its about the true real, hard issues that face a country. This is about people's lives. The fact that he has set a tone of truth to this matter, does show that Mr. Trump is not fearful of facing the harsh issues that are affecting Americans. Also the fact that he has been attacked day after day within this campaign and still fighting to win, shows that he can stand up to issue that America will face. This is exactly what America needs. With the political expertise of Mr. Mike Pence, I truly believe that the Trump, Pence, combination is the winning combination.
Picture
There is so much to think about, but for now, I will conclude that I really do feel that the American political system is in great need for a breath of fresh air, one that postulates unity for all.
Dedication: The words of this being are dedicated to all beings, and to the Trump and Pence Campaign. Loyalty above everything else. Let us focus on the people of America. My thoughts to share with love & kindness! :)

Relationships are the most important investment. That is what I told my children as  I planned a trip to Houston, Texas. I told them sometimes it does not matter what we have, what we want or what our desires are. When we feel that someone is in our need, or we need to demonstrate our care, we must do so. Here I share my photo's of my journey to Houston, Texas. This page will be continuously updated to share images of all of the places I visited, I am grateful to have visited these sites, walked on the streets of Houston. However, I also regret that I was not able to go to more places. There is just so much to see. Houston is a vast, vibrant, diverse city. I am so grateful for all those who cared for me while on this trip.

Thank you so much Houston, Texas. - You are loved! :)

Second Presidential Debate

Flourish

This is a thought that I wrote in 2014. It came through as I was deeply disturbed by what I had learned about the United Nations.

I really enjoyed the format of the Second Presidential Debate, where there were questions asked by audience members. This also allowed for viewers to take the time to think about how they would respond, or any thoughts that they would add.

For me, I was particularly interested in a question that was about the Syrian crisis and how the potential candidates would seek to resolve, or continue to work for peace for this region. This question was quite personal. It brought a lot of heightened emotions because of the fact that civilians are dying, and dying, by the day. It just seems like more needs to be done.

I was reminded of a lecture I attended on UN Day. I was quite excited to learn about this organization. However, after hearing what the professors had to say according to their research of the United Nations. I have to say, I walked home with deep regrets. Tears.

The United Nations is compiled of thirty nations. Whoever invests the most money has the highest say. The United States invests the most, therefore their say is what matters most. If this is the case, I wondered why, why there is not more done to help the people of this region. So I decided to share my thoughts via twitter as the debate took place. Below are my thoughts that I shared on the 9th of October 2016.

Since sharing these thoughts there has been a new Secretary General appointed to the United Nations.
António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, who has said that peace is his top priority.

Why not stop thinking about the Syrian Crisis as the crisis of the Syrian people, Why not begin to think of the people of this region, as human beings just like you and I. Why does this crisis resemble that of the Holocaust? Ask, think, reflect. Why is this region being used as the worlds wager?

Thank you to all who contributed to this question, and shared thoughts. I was pleased to see all of the diverse thoughts who also demonstrate concerns for the human beings of Syria.

The Sect Question

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land
where there is love, health, peace and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect. The truth is that on October the 1st or 2nd depending on which part of the world you live in, marked the beginning of the Islamic New Year. This is also known as the month of Muharram. It is a time that is celebrated by many, and it is also mourned by many.

As with many religious faiths. Islam also has many sects. The two largest sects are known as the Sunni and Shia sects. The Sunni sects believe in the caliphate system, where the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad are his (PBUH) rightful successors. Whilst  the Shia believe that the family of the Prophet should be the rightful successors

Whilst writing this, my aim is not to become intertwined with the details of faith, but to shed some light on my own experiences. My family is predominantly belonging to the Sunni sect. However, we also have a large part of our family belonging to the Syed Shia sects. My grandmother's family from the Shia, and my grandfather from the Sunni sect. This carried through to my own children, where their father is formerly belonging to the Shia sect.

During my time living with a Shia family, I always felt pressured to practice the Shia path of Islam. This would be through various rituals, prayer and also observing the month of Muharram through mourning. Through the Sunni path we would observe remembrance for 10 days. This was a time of deep grief for the holy family. Women were raped and tortured, there were deep bloodshed's.

Picture
I remember feeling a sense of deep confusion, which path: Sunni or Shia? What is right? What is wrong? I found that rather than following a specific path, to simply embrace all faiths. To practice through a spiritual lens. I have remained open in this sense because I don't want our children to feel the confusion that I had to go through. As the children grow older, I have to admit I kept holding on because I wanted the children to follow my parents path which is the Sunni path. I realized that this was not healthy for my health. They deserve to learn about both paths because it is a part of our family history. As the children grow older, I am grateful they too embrace spirituality, and a love and respect for all persons and faiths. I am grateful for this,

In the same sense, I think about all of the sectarian violence that is perpetuated because of belonging to a certain religious group. I think - is it necessary? Do we really need to have this kind of violence? I then relate this to my own experiences and this idea of letting go. Our sense of humanity arrived before any sense of religiosity.

The Sect Question:

If as a religious person we are supposed to love all, then is it not a stark contradiction to engage in barbaric sectarian violence?

If there is so much bloodshed in the world already, does it make sense to bleed the self?

A question to share.
My thoughts with love & kindness! :)

Dedication: The thoughts of this being are dedicated to our holy family.

The Transference Of Love.

Love is Vulnerability - Shazi. :)

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect. The truth is I think that when a new academic year begins for any student, it really is a time of getting in to a new routine, making sure we have all of the supplies, books, materials, courses, finances, and supports in place. As we finally settle in the new class schedule's we are also faced with the tasks to prioritize the readings, making sure we are prepared for classes. As any course professor will tell you, I find that it is always better to do the assigned readings before the class. After you have finished the readings, it may appear that there are concepts that are difficult to understand. If anyone begins to feel this way, it is OK.

1. You are perfectly primed for class, you will have a better understanding of discussions because you have already obtained a foundation to develop your thoughts during class, because of prior readings.

2. You can mark down points that need clarity

The thoughts I write about are actually true for me as well. As much as I try my very best to read ahead of class, there have been times where we get caught up. Life happens and we are not able to read ahead. When in this situation, I myself noticed the difference in my learning within the classroom discussions.

Picture

As the academic year begins, it is one goal that I have committed to - to make sure I do the readings before classes. It is with this thought I begin to think about the patient. The one who goes to the therapist, or a psychoanalyst. The Patient has an appointment and talks about his / her condition. Often at times it will be easy for a patient to fall in love with the analyst. This is certainly true for many cases that Sigmund Freud had to deal with. Male and female patients would often fall in love with him. If a psycho - analyst is listening to all the dilemma's, positives and negatives of life - it is easy for a patient to fall in love. I mean - I think that everyone wants someone who will listen to them. Who doesn't want that? A person who listens patiently to the woe's, troubles, and agonies, yet still remains patient.

So the question is - How does a psycho - analyst work through this situation and still remain professional to make sure the service is delivered? From a Freudian perspective, we can say that it is good to simply talk about what the patient is feeling. If the therapist ignores what the patient is feeling, it may send a dehumanizing message. The patients falling in love occurs because of the analytic situation, and not because of the Psycho - analyst charms or features. The patient must also acknowledge this as well. However, if the therapy is not doing what it is supposed to be doing, or the patient looses sight, and is simply focused on falling in love with the analyst, then it will be time for some reflection on part of the patient. There may have to be a discussion, about how therapy sessions proceed and what is in the best interest for the patient.

Picture

This scenario can also be related to any professional setting. What about an educational setting such as that of a teacher and a student? How does a teacher remain professional when it has become obvious that a student has developed an attachment that can be labelled as a "crush". When in this type of scenario - it is best not to ignore a student, but to take this interest back towards the learning. Show the students that you do care, take this energy and put it towards the goals of learning. This type of thinking acts as a supportive framework, rather than a negation of what is being felt.

When in a professional environment, professionals also want to be known for their human side, through their acts of service. However, there will be times when loves transference dominates the focus of learning / therapy. It must be noted that the more the feelings are resisted, they will become more dominating. Therefore it is important to acknowledge these. Maneuver the focus back to the learning and goals.

I have often compared the work of an educator or service provider to that of a philanthropist. We want what is best for the people that we serve, yet we also want to maintain a healthy boundary to keep ourselves protected.

Dedication - The words of this being are dedicated to all beings. No one is perfect, we are all unique. It is this uniqueness that truly is beautiful. My thoughts to share, with love & kindness! :)
