Cultivate Curiosity ~ Shazi. :)

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, joy, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that there is much chaos taking place, with the formulation of the new Government, and our new President. These changes are taking place essentially because it is a beginning, a new beginning. Whilst many of the new executive orders, such as building the wall, and the immigration orders are harsh, I think that these may have been handled better if they were presented with more clarity. Diversity, inclusion, and equity are necessary for the vibrance of a full integrated society. I still stand firm on my stance for both orders, however I wanted to take the time to break away from these thoughts and begin to refresh back into my thoughts about thinking, and what is it's purpose. I was thinking about the value of thought, what is it's value, or does it even have a value?

Can thinking be replaced by machines? As much as there are technological advancements, or even if we are in the midst of a technological revolution, we have to remember that even with all of the advancements, nothing can replace human beings. These thoughts can actually be connected back to the the immigration executive order. So many CEO's including those from tech firms such as Facebook, Google, Apple, Twitter, and Amazon have spoken about how this order is affecting their employees. The fact that these CEO's have stood up for their employees shows that tech firms also rely on the human capital. Regardless of the technological progressions that are appreciated, there will always be a need for human beings.

So how can we promote thought in the classroom? I was taking the time to think about finances and education. We need finances to survive, this is a given. However, should finances be discussed within the classroom contexts? I will present a scenario to demonstrate my thoughts:

Scenario:

"Good Morning Class, before we begin today's discussion, I want to know what your parents earn, or how much money you each have."

One of the students tells the class she is well - off, comes from a family of privalage. Whilst other students has very different circumstances, and decides not to share anything.

"Ok, so now we know this - let's begin our discussion."

The discussion begins, but no other student answers any of the questions, except for the privileged student, and the teacher responds much more frequently to this student.

Analysis:
So what has happened in this classroom? The student from the more privileged background is now being placed at the centre of attention. Whilst, the other students are being ignored.

What I am trying to demonstrate is the idea that I understand that finances are completely necessary and needed for survival. But there is a time and place to discuss these. When in a classroom setting, students all need to feel that they belong, regardless of where they come from, socio / economic status etc. Everyone has a right to learn, in a learning environment. Every educator has the right to provide, and share their knowledge to their students, without the expectations, that the students will be giving anything back to them. This is what it means to be a selfless educator.

These thoughts can also be transferred to the macro finance of the economy. Earnings matter, the financial health of an economy matters, for the survival and flourishing of a nation. However, when it comes to the contexts of learning environments, socio / economic status, class, can erode the making of thoughts. These thoughts can be transferred to the work place setting. When working or focus groups get together, at this moment in time, the employees gather to share new ideas, evoke and spark creativity, allow for this flow. This flow will only flourish when the thinking space is cultivated to allow thoughts to flourish. The creative space.

Dedication: The thoughts of this being are dedicated to all beings, the health of humans, and the health of the economy are true indicators of the flourishing society. My thoughts to share with love & kindness! :)
