The Creative Calling! :)

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that the beauty of thoughts, actions, behaviour, either positive or negative, human beings possess an immense capacity to think and reflect upon previous thoughts, actions, create the present, and of course imagine future actions through thought; should we choose or decide to do so. This is what I thought through my recent readings, which were describing the idea of looking twice. They were written in the context of doing research, but I think that they can be applied to any  life situation, thoughts, actions or behaviour. Sometimes when we hear or think something, we might decide that is is neither good or bad, but not right for us. For example after reading, I thought about my current stance upon technology. As I have written before, technology is neither good or bad. It is what we decide to do with the technology that is in our hands, or the devices that we use that decide if it is either or or bad.

Technology has allowed for the ease of communications through the growth of global networks, now as a researcher, student, or anyone who is looking for information, we have this amazing capacity where we can find information from the comfort of our own home. With these technologies we have also witnessed the arrival of cyber bullying, cyber terrorism, and this ease of access is also available to all, even those who are involved in processes of modern forms of terrorism. This ease is available to everyone.

In this field of education, there is a growing concern over the uses of technology. Whilst educators value the tools, which have in fact provided much ease to the teacher practitioner, there is the idea of loosing or diminishing the human capacity to be able to imagine, create, and creativity. I myself have felt this, sometimes with the need to find a quiet space, to simply gather my thoughts. However, I thought about my stance. Can human beings ever loose their capacity to create or be creative? Human beings are creating beings, right from the point of conception, we have this urge, this desire to create. Even through our trials and tribulations, we are constantly creating, because we are problem solving, through the moments where we feel frustrated, angry, or perplexed.

It is indeed this problem solving, or moments where we encounter disruption again, and again, where creativity will erupt. I once wrote the thought: Where there is disruption, there is eruption. We can simplify this thought through the following formula: Disruption = Eruption. This thought speaks to these thoughts that I am writing today. If there are growing concerns in the field of education about technology use, it should not be viewed as a creative block, but as an opportunity to think about how we can cultivate the uses of technology, and integrate them with teaching and learning processes, and also find spaces where we can create space for thought, thinking, or even be device free for a certain period of time. This is something that we practiced in our dance and art classes. The beauty of the arts, dance, music, sports, and I would actually include every topic is the need to be fully present, and focused.  Eventual we learn that the need to be fully present is a deep yearning, and desire of the heart.
