The Body Speaks.

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that today (yesterday) I decided to take the whole day to relax, and enjoy the day. Of course the to-do lists went through my mind, you have to get this done, and that done. But there was a tinkering inside me, telling me, you need to rest. So I did. The guilt of feeling maybe I'm being selfish, or neglecting what I need to get done creeped up, but then I decided to think: why feel guilt, or why is it not ok to take the time to rest, even if it does mean 1 day? My response really stems from our cultural conditioning, and the emphasis that we place on the clock. Get up you have to go to school, or there is not enough time, hurry up. Thoughts along these lines, is what we have heard, and continue to say to ourselves. What about the internal clock?

The internal clock tells our body to increase or decrease in our pace. Sometimes regardless of what needs to be done, or the to-do lists, we need to listen to our internal clocks . If we choose to listen to our bodies rhythm to slow down, it does not mean that we are neglecting our responsibilities, it means that we have realized that our greatest resource is our-self. We can only give ourselves to others, or to the cause that we strive for, if we ourselves have the energy to do so. We live in societies that value to idea of the clock: Getting to school, work, or wherever we need to be early. But sometimes we don't realize that not all of us are wired this way. These thoughts remind me of the teenage brain. The teenagers need more sleep, because they are growing, and hormones are maturing, but still we force the unhealthy practice of early morning school start times. We need to consider how culture affects our habits, actions, but also remind ourselves it is ok to slow down.

When feelings of guilt do take over remind yourself; there is enough time, everything will get done. I can and I will, and give yourself permission to rest.
