Shared Aspirations

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

     I think that the USA is in a unique position, one where the nation safeguards international relations, and another is to protect interests within a nation. We can think in-terms of service members deployed abroad. Where one must serve, protect and remain loyal regardless of what is happening within a nation. However; when one returns home after international service, there is a process of resettlement, where one is now faced with many different opinions, and attitudes, that are taking place within a nation. Where one battles for a particular opinion, or alignment with a political party. This is quite normal, and should be considered part and parcel of democracy, and democratic exchanges. This sounds simple / easy, but there can be a messiness, and this is also quite ok. One should possess the ability to take a stand for a view, know that there view may or may not be received well, and be ready to respond if necessary.  

But what about the researcher, who wants to go above and beyond what is happening in terms of the politic of the day? What could be, to look beyond internal divisions? While as researchers / students we should be allowed to think at this level, anyone should be allowed to think at this level. Anyone who desires peace, cohesion, and values a pluralistic society, can think upon this level, without formally engaging in research. If more individuals valued connectedness, shared hopes, dreams, aspirations, there would probably be a greater, stronger, nation within. And this strength is also something that would be valued at the international level as well.
