Reflection: Humble + Humility - Character Building.

Picture

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

I have written about the idea of innovation, or creative problem solving, that takes place at the level of the unknown, or at the cusp. Where there are periods of trial and error, figuring out, to find new ways of doing, and solutions. In this sense we can connect my previous ideas about being humble, with a possession of humility. It is easy to act, think, and behave in this way once you have figured out what you value, or what is important to you. This way of travelling through life comes through understanding of the self, that is probably derived from previous experiences, and reactions. When we think and reflect upon these, we can understand and improve upon the self. But what happens to a mind that is not yet fully developed, or is still maturing? This mind will go through irregular patterns of behaviour, processes of trial and error. Some will learn through peers, role models, family, friends, teachers, or anyone who has the ability to influxes another. Often times we have to go through life experiences to understand ourselves more. The decisions that we make, and what is going to work in our best interests. Of course during these stages there will be entangled thoughts, and behaviour.

I thought about the developing mind. Does the mind really develop at a particular stage in life? Or does the mind continue to develop as we grow through life? I would say that the latter is the case, but there are stages in life where there is more growth, and development that in other stages. So we have this idea of Brain Maturation, connected with life principles, such as the quality of being humble and humility.

How can we use these concepts through the Western lens? It is well known that the spiritual path, mindfulness practices where undertaken by the Buddhist Monks, Sufi's, East and South Asia Regions, or those who lived in some form of seclusion. How can we adopt these characteristics, and still engage with others at this level? I think that while we do take care to adopt these characteristics, they are also mixed with the interactions with others, and of course how we engage with others is not always going to be the same, there will be variety, difference, agreements, and disagreements. Again these should serve as learning curves. We are given this life to live the best version of ourselves. If things don't always go to plan, use these as learning opportunities, because as humans we are prone to error. It is how we rise from our errors that will also contribute to character building.
