Political Round-Up

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

A lot has been happening within the political arena, so I thought to have a political round-up.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh
While there has been opposition / support to endorse Judge Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court pick, I remain neutral. One because he has only been endorsed, and we don't actually know if he will be successful or not. We can only predict these by looking at his past credentials, experiences, and values as a human being. Which we did see and hear about. He's a conservative. For conservatism to really work, we have to think to a point of progressive conservatism - meaning that we don't revert back, but rather build up on what has been achieved, improve upon policies / practices for social innovation. On a personal note, I think that it would be nice to see a female Supreme Court pick endorsed, which would also have sent a positive message for the progress of women, as working professionals. Also, the timing of this announcement was not appropriate, because of what was / is  unfolding, and taking place at the U.S. / Mexico border, with the border crisis, immigration policy, and zero tolerance.

U.S. - U.K. Visit
It was nice to see President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visiting the U.K. Even amidst the protests, they were still able to have a nice visit. I thought about Queen Elizabeth II, her history with past U.S.A presidential visits, photographs, and fashion. While we always do compliment Her Majesty The Queen's clothing, I thought that it would be nice to see the Queen dressed in chiffons, and delicate fabrics. On another note - why wasn't the Queen in any of the recent Christening photos?

U.S. - Russia Visit
my thoughts are split between this visit. While it is good that the two countries are talking to one another, I wondered about the discrepancies with news media, and what was actually said. Especially when it comes to election meddling yet, the two leaders say their was no meddling. Who knows.... at least they are talking for peace building, I hope.

The other point was with regards to Syria. President Trump was united with France, U.K. for a recent military strike aimed at the Assad Government.  Knowing about the Russian involvement in chemical gas attacks on innocent children, I wondered why there was no mention of this. Or if any agreements would develop, from the outcomes of this meeting.

If you are going to sit with former adversaries, or leaders who are engaging / or who have engaged in mass murder, which I have also termed as the holocaust of the present, then we have to also ensure that these meetings make sense. it is non-sensical to have happy smiles, hand shakes, a few good words, unless there is actual progress made on issues, or where leaders need to work together to build peace.

Mayor Sylvester Turner
I contine to hold a tension with Mayor Sylvester Turner, who turned away innocent migrant children who needed care. While he insisted that Houston is the most diverse, welcoming city, his recent comments with regards to the MLK parade reveal where his greater intentions are with the diverse / minority populations, and who he supports the most. Diversity also entails equality. Equality for all minorities, which should also include majority. His upcoming travels to Latin America cannot make-up for the his decision to not support vulnerable children. Sometimes leaders need to admit that they did not make the best decision, or simply apologize. It does not demean, or make someone a lesser person. It actually reveals character, strength, and human imperfections that we can all learn from.
