In Our Hands

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, joy, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that one of the blessings of having children is to be able to engage in meaningful discussions with them. I cherish these moments, where I am able to hear their perspectives, as well as share my own knowledge, learning, and life experience.

I am pleased that I have remained an open minded mother to my children. As a family we believe in respecting all human beings, valuing race, faith, religion, spirituality, ability, (dis) ability, sexuality, and gender. I am proud of this. So the other day, daughter simply told me that she had a conversation with a friend about religious faith. Without going into too much detail my response was as follows:

I simply said: The beauty of being a spiritual being is that we are able to embrace all. This does not mean that you give up your own belief, but it is that your belief acts as a grounding to allow you to embrace others of difference. We must be open to understanding that differences do exist within human beings. These could be pertaining to our abilities, faith etc (as mentioned earlier). They could even be our physical make - up, such as skin color, height, weight etc. These differences should not be viewed as a threat but rather an opportunity to embrace difference.

This is the vital key to equality, to be able to view others as unique, different, but also be able to uphold and adhere to the principle of equality.

The difference and the uniqueness is the beauty. As I have wrote many times: Our own uniqueness is our own divinity. This is the avenue that allows an individual to express themselves.

To be open minded, to embrace others of difference does not mean that one does not embrace his or her faith, they are not and "idiot" or "do not know what Islam is". It simply means that we understand that all faiths matter. Faith is a form of self - expression, in other words it is a component that makes - up who we are. Embracing all allows us to realize that the world / earth does not belong to a particular faith, but rather for all.

Dedication: These words are dedicated to all beings, your uniqueness is the beauty. My thoughts to share with love & kindness! :)
