As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The truth is that yesterday President Trump announced the United States withdrawal from the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This was because of an anti-Israel bias that was noted. After the US withdrawal, Israel also decided to quit the program as well. Whilst noting this bias we have to ask, why was it there in the first place? And also if there is a bias there, then what measures is the organization taking to rectify this?

This withdrawal was upsetting because of a great belief in the Arts, science, education, and culture. The US could have asked for a revision of the agencies practice, but then again I am not the President, and ultimately he decides. However, we can think of the need for reform from within this organization, to be more inclusive. Of course if an organization does not support the values upheld by the United States, then decisions have to be made.

So the US has withdrawn, this should not mean that the US does not support initiatives for education, science or culture. I truly hope not. This is a grave concern of mine. Whilst we must think about economic growth, and build good relationships with trading nations, partners, and companies from within a nation, we must remember to preserve, and conserve what we have. We are living in the 21st century and of course Information Technology (ICT) is an enormous contributor to industry, but we must also remember that the very technologies that are benefiting industry or part of the Globalization process were once thought of through the human mind. Everything that is and was ever produced was through the act of thought.

Having said this we can think about technology. Is technology something that should be feared? I think not. Technology alone is simply technology. It is what you do with it, how it is operated, and even the experience that you have with technology that determines how you perceive what technology can, or cannot do for you. We can even think of the Globalization process. Many fear this term. Many don't understand, and some don't care. I wrote earlier that many individuals can only seek to care and think about their own survival. Having said this, I think that many who are given the privilege to care for those who cannot afford to care, must begin to think about the process of Globalization as a two-way street. For example: if a corporation decides to invest in a higher education institution, the higher education institution is going to reap the benefits of the investment. And in return a certain amount of control is given to companies who are investing.

Whilst higher education institutions don't want to give up control or power, they must also remember that their value still exists. Companies or corporations value their research, and often rely on the results for investments, or products that they are deciding to to produce. We can think of natural health products, skin care, foods, social improvements, farming, or even how technologies can benefit industries such as health care.

With technology, Globalization and the push for developments, of course we should never forget the benefits of investing in people. International agencies such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), or the World Bank (WB), have significantly increased funding, and their emphasis upon education. What the World Bank sees is that human capacity should not be underestimated. This thought is interesting as we can have Technology, investments, infrastructure, but investment in human beings should not be forgotten. How human beings think, act and behave can how both a positive or a negative influence / consequence.

We can link this thought to the United States - even though there is a withdrawal from UNESCO, what and how will the US continue to promote culture, education, and science from a leadership perspective? Growth, profit maximization is necessary for the financial health of a country, but we must also think about other industries that can benefit a nations growth and also the contributions of human beings.

Yes, it's true that United States of America is under a new leadership right now, but that doesn't mean that we should lose our support for the government. Though I know that it's going to be hard for some, let us put our trust for President Donald Trump. I know he ran for this position because he believes that he can make a difference. In terms of technology, US has a lot of things to do with that and that is an absolute fact!
