A Grammar Thought

As I close my eyes and drift away to a land where there is love, health, peace, and blessings. I wanted to take the time to think and reflect.

The beauty of gaining the tools of any skill or profession is that you learn the foundations, build knowledge / skill from simple levels, to higher levels, and eventually are able to manipulate those tools for gain, or essentially; purposefully. When I use the word manipulate, I do not intend to evoke the evil genius - but rather the idea to pursue the ability to infuse yourself, your personality, or what ideas, new skills that you can also add to what you have gained. We can take the example of a crafts person, such as a jeweller, who learns the skills of the trade / business, then later is able to build upon these, to create something that is unique. We can also take the example of the writer. They say that in order to write effectively we must first learn the mechanics of writing, and when we finally reach a certain level, or become a writer we are able to express the self, manipulate the mechanics of writing, to reveal our expressions in our writing.

Writing is not just about the letters and the words that we write. It also involves the grammar, punctuation, stylistic elements, literary skill that we choose to apply or not. These thoughts surfaced again when I thought about the: colon(:), comma (,) and the semi-colon (;). I wondered why the semi-colon went out of fashion, and why the colon gained all the fame; or did it? But then I realized who teaches you about the mechanics of writing matters. What is important to the person who teaches you, will also be transferred to you. While you may or may not gain the opportunity, to be able to learn the same topic from a variety of people, or sources expands our knowledge, gaining more tools.

Something minute as the semi-colon, or the comma reveals a persons attention to detail, the importance of knowledge transference, application that arrives from understanding, and also what is important to an institution as a whole. It may not be evident from the example of the semi-colon, or punctuation, but the very teachings that we are exposed to, are also put in place to align with a particular political philosophy, and ideologies that align institutions together at the national and International level.

It's been quite informative! Thank you so much for letting us know the basics that many people were still confused to use. Many of us were mistaken sometimes because we cannot say the right and proper thought of what we are doing, that is why these signs were so good to know and remember. Sharing your thoughts is very important for you and if you does not want to be mistaken, you really have to deliver it well. I hope that many will visit this blog of yours and be educated.
